The Poet Laureate Alfred Lord Tennyson lived at nearby Farringford House which he described as “Far from noise and smoke of town...close to the ridge of a noble down”. Also close by is Dimbola Lodge, the home of Julia Margaret Cameron and now a photography museum, showcasing the works of contemporary photographers, alongside Cameron’s own portraits of Victorian celebrities.
